SD Day 3 - the zoo

May 29th was our three year wedding anniversary!  We decided to get out of town for a little bit and get to some cooler weather.  San Diego was perfect.  We planned to go to the zoo that day, hoping it wouldn't be crowded and it wasn't bad at all.

Ms. Avery and my hubs got me a leather journal.  He knew that the 3rd year gift is "something leather."  He said he wanted me to have this to jot down things about Avery.  I can't wait to keep track of what she says, does, etc...Yes, I have this blog, but I know we will love looking back at a hard copy of something!

First, we saw the giraffes.  We found out that these are the Masai giraffes, the same kind we saw in Kenya last year.

We took lots of breaks in the shade to let Avery stretch out.  We were pretty sun burned from the day before, so we had to stay in the shade a lot!

Look how sweet she is with her Daddy!

I carried her for a little bit to give her a break from the stroller and she fell asleep instantly.  I just wanted to make it to the elephants, but she was already asleep.  haha  Sweet little lady!

They had several elephants and they were humongous!

They have a massive elephant care center where they bring them in for 30 mins a day and give them a foot bath and soak.  I thought this was hilarious!  Look at his big foot in that tub of water.  They feed them vegetables to get them to stay still while they're in there.

This was the smallest of all of them.  He was swaying back and forth like he was listening to some headphones or something!  It was SO funny.  Obviously you can't tell from the picture, but we took a video of it.  He was swaying so much that his opposite front leg would come off the ground a little.

This also cracked us up.  The polar bear just loungin' with his leg up on the rock wall. haha

Sweeeeet girl!!  She was very good at the zoo!

This zoo also has a few panda bears.  I learned that pandas are actually really mean and antisocial. haha That makes me not like them as much!  But, they're rare, so I have to like them.

This was around the time when Ave learned to stick her tongue out.  She was loving it.  We would laugh and her and she would just do it some more.

SO funny!! I just love her!!

Just taking another break..

..and getting sleepy!

Another favorite at the zoo, the gorillas!

One of the very few family pics we got on our anniversary.  We are a sun-burned, sweaty mess and Avery was sleeping. haha

We had a lady, straight from southern Arkansas take our picture.  At least, that's where it sounded like she was from!!  I wasn't making fun...we probably talk like that too. lol

They were waiting on me to get ready to go out for dinner.  Avery had already passed out for her evening nap.  Love these two!

We ended up going to a Mexican place at the suggestion of the valet guy.  It wasn't quite the place you should take a stroller in to.  And it didn't help that it was "taco tuesday."  haha It was probably the most rowdy place we will ever go for our anniversary dinner.  oh well, food was good!  We had a great time anyway.  Then we came back to the hotel...I wanted to get in the pool but it was chilly outside so we put Ave in her jammies and hung out in the room.

This is her, sleeping the morning we had to drive back.  She must have got all of her napping in at that time because she didn't sleep all that much in the car on the drive back! ha ha!

Overall, we had such a fun trip.  It is nice that San Diego is 6 hours away...well 8, if you are driving with a baby!! :)  But it is just so nice to get out of this nasty heat.  We hope to go back one more time this summer.  That would be really nice.

Also, happy anniversary to my amazing husband!  These past three years have been the best of my life. I sure am blessed to have you and our little Avery-girl.  Love you both so, so much! :)
